It generally does not unlock new capabilities for Engineering teams. Adopt it when compliance or data-residency mandates require workloads to run in your own cloud. BYOC moves infrastructure out of Vercel’s managed boundary. Expect slightly more upkeep than the fully managed tiers.
Pick Aurora PostgreSQL, Aurora DSQL, or DynamoDB, choose a region, and Vercel injects the connection variables into your project.
OIDC assumes your AWS role and mints short-lived IAM tokens on each connection, so no database passwords are ever stored.
Functions and databases share a data center. Aurora ran 50 sequential round trips in 64ms; other providers took 109ms and 150ms.
